Hey guys, just to update everybody, as requested by Kate myself and Naomi had a meeting and presentation this afternoon to a group of people from loads of different galleries, including the Tate in London, everybody was really positive about how the project has gone and there was even the mention of some other galleries wanting to commission some of the [Displayframe] for their own Youth Forum’s. Everybody seemed very keen to push the Youth Forum forward and looked forward to recieving a copy of our project document on how they could progress. So Good News.
After a well-received launch event, our next stage is gathering feedback and reflections about the changes to the space and our work which was presented through both the projections and wall pin-ups. The cork wall was a huge hit and encouraged visitors to interact and post their comments and suggestions. As an extension of that idea, we will be using the blog to generate some feedback also about the event itself and invite anyone (even group eleven ourselves) to post some views and thoughts.

In our post-launch analysis, live project group Eleven all agreed that friday’s launch was a resounding success (although we maybe somewhat biased).
The prototype [displayframe] looked fantastic and the room itself had been transformed by some cork, vibrant green & ‘architectural tubes’. Even the troublesome blinds had finally been fixed! it was a shame that we didnt manage to achieve our aim of breaking out of the confines of the room out into galleries and beyond but alex did an amazing job shepherding passers-by into the exhibition with the promise of FREE TEA & COFFEE!
Once they were inside many of the public & gallery staff took the time to study our process and future visioning work. It was even said by one staff member that and the room was busier than it has possibly ever been in the gallery’s history. Now we just have to find a way to keep the Millenium Galleries open after 5pm so the Youth Forum can actually get in and use this space as its intended……

Following the comments made during meetings with the enablers of the Millennium Galleries concerning the possibilities of connecting with a wider audience, we decided that as part of our launch, to take the Youth Forum’s [displayframe] out to Park Hill to encourage possible future links with different communities.

The final installation piece in the Millennium Galleries today would have been the ‘armchair’. Placed in front of the plasma screens, it would have triggered an intended sense of uneasiness and curiousity of what was going on in the space for passersby, as a kind of teaser of things to come in the social space.

Assuming that we were permitted to continue developing our intervention, today the display would begin its 3-dimensional aspect with the addition of a worktable standing on both sides of the ‘glass’ and half-empty paint cans to emphasise the idea of creating space to encourage artistic pursuits rather than just finished exhibition pieces.

No one seemed to have mentioned yet but we have indeed spitted up into another form of mini-groups at beginning of this week. The groups are now something like this…
Lukas + BX – interior space + furniture
Helen + Judith – Launch Exhibition (2nd Nov)
Adam + Kim – Installation, Future Vision
Iain + Naomi + Alex + Paul – FurnitureInstallation Group is currently on hold as Kim has mentioned in the previous post, it has not been well received and all the stuff must be removed today before 11. For the Interior and Furniture Group, they have found some good quality second hand furniture to go into the YF space. Adam has scheduled someone from the flooring company to see the space tomorrow morning to see if the rubber flooring idea is viable or not. The short side of the solid wall will be claded with cork tiles and the long side of the solid wall will be painted white. Architectural tubes will be fitted into the space too to provide softer lighting.
Exhibition Group has decided ‘WORK IN PROGRESS’ is going to be the theme of the event. The exhibition is going to celebrate the process and the value of creating. The original idea was to have the exhibition spilling into the foyer space, however, due to the installation incident, the group has to rethink again and try to fit the exhibits all into the YF room.
Good news from the Furniture Group, they have came up with this system of components which all has the same shell so they can be stored away and wheeled off to different location around the gallery. They are aiming to make scale 1-1 prototypes of a few of their ideas which will be displayed in the Launch event.
There is going to be a meeting with the whole team in the space in MG at 9:30am and another meeting at 2pm with the Head of Exhibition to discuss about the Launch.
